The algorithm that is behind the scenes takes into account a few aspects:

Your G$: The more G$ you have, the higher you will rank
Your category level: You can add unlimited "Normal" level categories, but only one "Primary", "Secondary", and "Tertiary" levels.
These category levels give respectively 200%, 100% and 50% boost to your ranking when users filter their search for that category
If your main activity is for example streaming videogames on Twitch, setting that category as "Primary" will give you much more visibility when people browse the Globe filtering by Twitch category
Your profile completeness: Profiles with a photo, a description, images uploaded and at least 1 category will rank higher
Your registration date: In case of even ranks between users, the ones that registered their account more recently will rank higher

When browsing the Globe, only the highest 100 Spots are shown, there are 2 modes:

Without Zoom: The highest 100 Spots all around the globe are shown, considering the entire planet
Zooming In: The highest 100 Spots of the zoomed area are shown

You can browse without filters or filtering by category, to do that access the settings page by clicking the sliders icon on top-right corner.
The 100 filtered Spots are also scaled proportionally based on their rank (top ranking Spots will be rendered bigger, potentially partially covering the smaller ones, providing more visibility and clicks to their profile).

Rankings are updated every hour, so if you bought Globe Dollars or updated your profile, it can take up to 60 minutes to reflect the changes.
